Legion Post raises funds at local gathering

The Post reported receipts over 410 with about 200 from box supper bids. Opie Williams won the highest bid, and members praised the turnout and generosity. Publishers in Des Moines plan a later gathering, while local items note a Ford plant visit and a Poland China sale set records in Kansas City.

Early 20th Century Life of Den Lent Gibbs

Den Lent Gibbs born November 1 1859 died January 30 1920 aged 29 years 2 months 29 days. He entered college in 1967 to study telegraphy and worked in the field until April 1916 when he became a farmer at the Old Homestead birth place. He married Fanny Deeds of Ocitumwa Iowa and had Paul Gibbs. Funeral services were held February 1 at the A Epbell Church with interment in Bug Cemetery. He was described as a young man of promise greatly missed by many friends.

Mrs Mager Barnett Dies At 68 In Mitchell South Dakota

Margaret Elisabeth Barnett was born February 2 in Jefferson County Iowa and died January 25 1920 at her son’s home in Mitchell South Dakota aged 68 years 11 months and days. She moved with her family to Wayne County in 1853 helped organize the first Baptist church there and remained active in church life. She joined the Mitchell Baptist Church in 1917 and attended until death. Funeral services were conducted January 28 1920 at Cambria Iona by Rev Orr Campbell.

The last living original Mormon emigrant who joined Brigham Young in the Salt Lake Valley on June 24 1847 died last night at age ninety two. He fathered eighteen children ten sons and six daughters.
