Mayor D P Goodrich won re election in Humeston by about two to one over J J Hasbrouck. The Citizens ticket swept the ballot, with all current town officials reelected or chosen, defeating the People's slate.
A lively election in Garden Grove polled 2385 ballots, five fewer than two years ago. Hutchinson led with 167 votes while VanDerley trailed at 72 for assessor. The vote tally lists councilmen, park commission, and treasurer races with multiple party lines and notable upsets, including Hoadley losing the mayoral race to William Stanley.
Johnson elected assessor and G W Molleston treasurer. New councilmen include G W Hutchinson M A Belvel J I Jones Boyd Eck and P A Rockhold. Dr J N McCoy defeats Mayor Ripper 267 to 135 for mayor of Corydon. other officials named. Seymour mayor TL Gaddis wins after lively race with 418 ballots. councilmen elected D N Darrah L D Yeager PLA Weller Fred Johnson Dr C E Blakely. treasurer E R Owen. assessor R A Weagley.
Korn defeated Abel Morgan for mayor of Allerton. The new councilmen are B. Bracewell D. Acheson JT. E. Bracewell R. M. Duncan and A. C. Housley. H. B. Shields for treasurer and Will Foster for assessor had no opposition.
No opposition emerged in Leon as George R. Farquhar was chosen mayor. The city council includes C. M. Akes EB. G. Monroe Win Cash P. A. Gardner and Morris Gardner.
Inspection of farm assessed valuations shows eleven counties in Town below Wayne and eighty-seven above. Highest is Scott at 8256 dollars, lowest Allamakee at 38.39. Wayne at 53.62, neighbors Decatur 45.98, Clarke 49.52, Tucas 44.95, Monroe 44.237, Appanoose 46.86. Levy applies to one fourth of these amounts.
Joy A. Rice, who underwent an operation at Mayo hospital in Rochester on March 11, has been discharged and is getting along nicely. A report to his brother indicates his condition after the operation is good and much improved. Rice has endured three operations in the past year.

Mr and Mrs George C Gardner learn their son Rev Ralph Gardner pastor of the Christian church at Haigler Nebraska sustained severe injuries in a runaway accident He was thrown from the buggy and his hip was dislocated with the body badly bruised His two companions escaped unharmed He is reported getting along nicely
Local sportsmen in Waterloo threaten to sue for rebates of fifty to seventy-five cents on hunting licenses they bought expecting spring duck shooting rights. The move follows confusion over license entitlements and potential claims on public funds.
Mrs. J I Snyder learned her father Lee Dennis formerly of Humeston was struck by a car while crossing a Chanute Kansas street. He suffered a dislocated shoulder and severe bruising to his right arm and leg in the incident.

W L Alexander sells hardware stock to Corydon Lumber Co and moves to former Fair building. Van Wert Methodists dedicate a brick church valued at 12000 with 6450 raised to clear debts. The Humeston Concert band directed by Charles Humeston gave a refined performance with twenty instruments and balanced sections. Soloists J L Taylor baritone and A L Edwards cornet impressed. a lighthearted Haunted House sketch by A E Taylor and Clifford Clark drew laughs. Rain and bad roads reduced turnout, door receipts totaling 36.75 dollars despite enthusiastic support.
An Alton Democrat urging home gardening as a fourfold return on time spent. It promises bountiful strawberries and corn while noting backaches and blisters but touts gardening as a major nerve restorer and sleep aid. It stresses gardening cannot be done by proxy.
Will Calkins of Florida on Business left Friday for a six week trip in the state. He travels for the National Association of Business Men to visit about one hundred largest towns and cover nearly the entire state. A hydro aeroplane ride from Tampa to St. Petersburg is planned. After Florida, he will go to Washington D C.
Theodore King, who fell ill with pneumonia three weeks ago, shows marked improvement after a period of critical condition. Friends express hope for a full return to his usual health.
William J. Burns lauds The Deep Purple as a rare underworld portrayal after watching Paul Armstrong at Lyric Theatre. Princess presents the film Thursday April 23 with talking pictures debuting tonight and special Town state fair clips April 9 alongside the regular program. Prices are 10 and 20 cents.
Former President Taft offers a hopeful view of sixty, saying a man at that age is in his prime and has not outlived usefulness. He notes the zenith may come after experience, urging self restraint and sacrifice to guide youth, and that sixty allows wiser, careful help to younger people.
Books may now be sent by parcel post as fourth class matter at a cheaper rate. The old rate was one cent per two ounces regardless of quantity. the new rate charges one cent per two ounces up to eight ounces, with regular zone rates beyond eight ounces. This enables large book shipments to cost as much as standard fourth class mail.
J. H. Clark of Corydon announced last week his bid for the Democratic nomination for Wayne County recorder, the first definite declaration in the June party primaries. Incumbent L. Steiner, Corydon Democrat, seeks re-election. Clark, a traveling salesman, plans to quit the road due to age and would pursue the recorder post.
N. G. Hart aged seventy three and longtime Wayne county resident died at his Humeston home last Wednesday morning after weeks of illness due to heart trouble. Born December 25, 1840 in Clay county Missouri, he moved to Wayne county at age nine and later farmed near Cambria before relocating. He married Emily M. Miller in 1867 and after her death remarried Martha J. Fisk in 1908. Funeral services were held Friday at the M. E. church with Rev. Orr Campbell and Rev. Burton Sheppard officiating. burial followed in Humeston cemetery amid attendance from Cambria neighbors.
Fred P Stiles brother of Lafe Gibson of Flameston married Miss Harriett Gever in Deg Maines on Tuesday evening of last week. Stiles is a bookkeeper for Standard Oil Co. He has visited the Gibson home often and friends extend best wishes.
