Representative Wolf Urges Direct Federal Tax Refund by State

State Representative Jacob John Wolf of the 14th district calls for an equitable direct return of federal tax dollars to states based on taxes paid. He notes 18 states including Illinois paid more to Uncle Sam than they received in 1967, while 31 states received more than paid and Missouri broke even. Illinois taxpayers paid 1.63 dollars for each 1 dollar of federal grants, second only to New Jersey, while Alaska paid 0.21 per 1 dollar. Wolf cites the court rulings and that Illinois paid 291 million more in 1966 than it received and 367 million less in 1967, as evidence of the revenue problem.
