Area G1 Is Awarded Silver Star
Staff Sergeant Joe Samaniego of El Paso Texas and Sergeant Joe DeMartino of 3141 N Austin were awarded Silver Stars for rescuing three wounded Cavalry men and repelling a Viet Cong ambush in Viet Nam last June. They moved under heavy fire to bring teammates to safety and disable enemy bunkers after a 105mm booby trap blast. General Andrew J. Goodpaster pinned the medals.
