Crawford department stores president Alan Garber will head a merchant delegation to the Sinois Retail Merchants association annual meeting at the Sheraton Blackstone hotel April 23-24. Tuley High School PTA and student congress co sponsor a community program at 7 p.m. on April 16 in Fisk hall 1313 N Claremont. Guest speakers include police commanders Meinerney Miller Betances Branch Krol and Jose Lopez. A variety show and exhibits highlight International Night and the school community.
Mozart Park at 3840 Armitage hosts a boys marble tournament at 4 p.m. today. The event features midget players aged 9 to 11 and juniors aged 12 to 14. Marble supply is provided. entrants join for free with community assistance expected.

The Organization of Northwest Communities Youth Committee meets at 7 30 p m on Tuesday at 1900 N Karlo w discuss improving youth sports facilities. Chair Ann Kirkwood reports Greenebaum Park Boosters met April 2 with Park District rep Sumner Webb. The group aims for a summer program with shelter, activities director by June 16, a basketball court, and a 12 foot fence along the alley as a step toward full-time facilities.
Walther Memorial Hospital at 1116 N Kedzie earned a three year accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals after a February survey by field representatives. Administrator C C Singer noted commendation for maintaining standards and ongoing improvements including a new four story wing and enhanced departments with future plans for an intensive care and cardiac unit.
Chicago begins gun registration requiring all wirearms to be registered with the city collector by May 15. Applicants provide detailed personal and weapon data and must be 18 or older with no felony convictions, with fines up to 500 dollars for violations.
Television weatherman Harry Volkman visited Moose School on Tuesday, and nine year old Wanda Bagley said he is her ideal. Wanda told her teacher, Miss Joan Blake, that she dreams of becoming a weatherman like Volkman when she grows up.
Pioneer Bank announces three appointments after a Friday board meeting. Theodore M. Pieper becomes assistant cashier in real estate loans, James C. Yester named manager of installment loans, and Thomas J. Dillon to pro-cashier in the banking department. Pieper is a Concordia Teachers College graduate with real estate training and prior Chicago area mortgage experience. Yester previously expanded installment lending and has years in banking and finance. A separate community note mentions weather educator Volkman visiting schools after a prior assault disrupted a February appearance in Morton Grove.
Logan Square area youth sell YMCA Deran Thin mints to fund day camp resident camp or YMCA membership. For every five cases sold, a two week period at Camp Hastings 45 miles north of Chicago is awarded for outdoor activities.
