May 2 issue notes Dr Coad attending the State Medical Association in Des Moines. Norwegians hold a Sunday church service with a large crowd. Reports on farming, weather, and a fatal drowning near Rock Valley where two rescuers died after their boat capsized in rising floodwaters.
Next Sunday May 6 services at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church begin 10 am followed by a postponed congregation meeting. American Reformed to shift evening services to 8 pm while C EB begins at 7 pm with "Value of Initiative" topic. Sunday School at 10 am C E at 7 pm pastor leads meeting.
Sioux City based Rev Mugler will present a stereoptican passion play lecture at the Opera House on Friday May 20. Admission 25 and 15 cents. The audience may recall his winter illustrated sermon at the Methodist church and seek another opportunity to hear him. Doon incident noted with wolf hunting by Fred Smith and Will Smith yielding seven wolf pups and a future $19 payment.
Rik Weierama born in Holland township near Orange City in 1876. He lived in the county most of his life and moved to Hut in 1902, where he bought and ran an implement business for seven years.
The article notes Mr. Wierman as a long time Hull resident and former town council member from 1904 to 1905. He was well known in Sioux County and surrounding counties for his active involvement and businesslike approach.

From Washington April 20 Special Roosevelt wins Nebraska and Oregon primaries on April 19 securing likely nomination. Six northern states cast 196 delegates, Roosevelt leads Taft nearly 20 to 1 in these delegates. States vote payoff includes Illinois and Pennsylvania margins and warns Taft is not safe for Chicago convention. Newspapers nationwide amplify Roosevelt momentum and question Taft’s viability.
Roosevelt leads the Pennsylvania Republican primaries with overwhelming support as delegates are pledged across states. Dixon reports 235 for Roosevelt, 3 for Taft, 6 for Cummins, 36 for La Follette, and 118 uninstructed including 88 from New York, with contests pending for the rest.
As warm weather returns flies emerge from winter and spread disease germs. Killing flies now reduces future infections and protects children’s health, likening the act to heroic work. Mr. and Mrs. Ford Steffen of Spence were guests at the Steffen home last Saturday.
Delegates to the May 16 Iowa state Democratic convention at Burlington are set after Saturday county meetings boosted Clark supporters beyond 517. The Fifty-fourth Regiment from Ottumwa will play at Burlington as the Clark faction seeks a strong lead, while Republicans prepare for the second state convention in Des Moines to name the state central committee. Interest centers on the contest between Lafe Young and Kenyon for the U.S. Senate and local governors race as figures like George W. Clark, Proudfoot, Holden, and Ketchum draw attention from across the state.
