Ship Channel Completed by Government Ready for Opening
The Houston deep water Ship Channel is finished after 14 months and about 1,000,000 cubic yards of dredging. At 11:15 Monday the last sand was removed, making the channel 2614 feet deep and 100 to 150 feet wide. Officials accept the work and plan an opening during No-Tau-Oh week in November with President Wilton to touch the electric button. A joint dredges effort by the government and Houston awaits the opening, with funds provisioned for future maintenance and docking facilities.
