Galveston was cut off from the outside world as storm winds and high seas halted rail service and knocked out telegraph and telephone lines. Reports warned of possible bridge damage on the bay and widespread disruption across the coast. Houston remained connected only via a lone Associated Press dispatch wire.
Reports from New Orleans detail a damaging storm sweeping the Gulf states. Officials note no loss of life, but rice and cane crops suffer heavy blows while telegraph and rail lines face widespread outages across Louisiana and Texas.
A severe Houston storm caused extensive damage with downed wires and fallen trees. Winds reached near sixty miles per hour, flooding rooftops and darkening streets as communication lines failed and electric service was cut off.

A man named Harry Black, a driver for Sir Weatherheimer's hacks, died in Houston last night after being struck by an energized roof wire. Alderman L F Miller found the body near Wells-Margo Press and reported the incident. The corpse showed burns on hands and leg, with debris from a collapsed Gibla building roof. The power house of the electric street railway was demolished around 1 am. The body was transported to 206 Center Street.
Reports describe widespread destruction from a storm. Buildings hit include the Post office Grand Central depot and hotel structures with roofs blown off and windows shattered. The Pneumatic and Wells Fargo facilities suffered damage while the Pubic Transport and nearby houses were uprooted or set ablaze.
In El Pian Texas a late night incident at the passenger depot resulted in officer Rayner fatally wounding Gifford after a struggle with transfer of control at the scene. The altercation occurred near the Southern Tactic yards as officers attempted to arrest the suspect, with Gifford dying within minutes. Also noted is a separate report of the steamer Michignan from Galway to New York suffering cargo damage after a collision.
