Police arrested the Beales. later that afternoon McQueen and Miss Beale married Judge Gaston’s license venue officiated by Rev. Edward Cobb.
Typographical union No. 13 votes to strike if master printers refuse union wage scale for women doing the same work. Debate centers on whether women typists are journeymen and should receive equal pay. About 2600 persons would be affected by the action.
Prompt police work in Maquoketa Iowa led to arrests of John Jackson Job Siosl and Charles Given as suspects in the theft of a United States express safe carried from Sioux City. The bag contained about $40,000 with $12,000 in rolls.
Three thousand Topeka men adopt a fiery ultimatum demanding saloons end unlawful traffic by February 15 1901. The meeting led by Carrie Nation supporters warns police duties and vows sweeping enforcement with 1200 volunteers ready to join a force to punish saloon operations.
The Law and Order League of Kansas City was formed to enforce prohibition and curb saloons and gambling for the welfare of homes and children. Carrie Nation’s Chicago lecture tour was cancelled after poor advance sales but Nation is expected to still visit Chicago.
