Frankfort reports show Governor Taylor torn over the Louisville conference terms as Democrats push for swift adoption. Republicans split with Taylor’s fate tied to his signature, while Louisville and Nashville railway support remains pivotal amid looming injunctions and state government plans.
The Kentucky legislature met in a crowded two room session inside the Laurel County seminary in London. Senator Hayes opened proceedings noting the session’s gravest concerns as representatives faced crowded benches and limited space.
About forty members of the Kentucky State Guard from Louisville stayed behind in Louisville due to an Adjutant General order countermanding their departure to Frankfort. The train time was interrupted briefly as tickets were refunded and no clear reason was given. Democratic legislators including South Trimble and L H Friar remained in Louisville awaiting further developments in Frankfort.
