In Frankfort Kentucky Judge Cantrall overruled the motion for a new trial and sentenced Jim Howard to life imprisonment. The court ordered Howard transferred to Georgetown for safekeeping pending appeal.

New York reports John W. Gates engineered a rail deal uniting lines from Kansas City to Quincy and Omaha to St. Louis. He allegedly built a Mississippi Missouri valley system by buying Guardian Trust stock, using creditor claims, and converting foreclosures into ownership in a network extending from Kansas City to Quincy and St. Louis with branches.
Washington dispatch reports the War Department releasing four cables from Cuban leaders urging rapid policy cuts on sugar and tobacco imports. One message to the president signed by Jorge de la Colle of the Audiencia of Pinar Del Rio, others from Sanches, Vortal, mayor of Santa Clara, and officials of Santa Clara.
Dispatches describe Prince Henry’s anticipated arrival in New York aboard the Kron Prins Wilhelm. He will transfer to the imperial yacht after docking, with a public welcome by Mayor Low and officials pending Washington guidance on transfer location and arrangements.
