In Denton Mr F F Hughes’s small rent house at Hot Point burned last night around nine thirty, destroying Walding and a stable with eighty thousand bushels of corn and hay for his farm horses. Loss about five hundred dollars. no insurance.
This afternoon the residence of B. H. W. F. Burton in Sherman Texas was found to be on fire. The flames were controlled before a total loss could occur. Damage to the building and contents is placed at about $1,000, fully covered by insurance.
A fire at Fike College, seven miles west of Pike Celeste Texas, on December 6 destroyed oil filled contents. Loss estimated around 5000 dollars. No injuries reported as authorities investigated the blaze.
W H Simms boot and shoe dealer of Fort Worth Texas has made a common law assignment for the benefit of creditors without preferences. Ralph J Saxe of Heaton is assignee. Principal creditors include Traders National Bank K S Nelson Utz Dunn Marcy Bros J H Lee among others.

Washington December 7 The Texas delegation led by Governor Sayers and Judge Lanham asked Secretary of War Alger to muster out all Texas troops. Alger said Texas units would be mustered out after the army re organization bill passes Congress and he would urge the president to muster out one regiment first, likely the First.
Washington December 7 Major General Joseph Wheeler, commander of the fourth army corps, has attended House sessions daily but not taken part. Texas Democrat Bailey warns he may protest if Wheeler acts as a representative, claiming the volunteer commission forfeits his seat. Wheeler says he holds both roles lawfully and precedents favor him.
Secretary Long today began steps to organize a united naval reserve with a bill draft to enroll volunteers who served in the Spanish American War and cadets from the naval academy. The plan would allow officers petty officers and enlisted men to be re enlisted in reserve units and retain ranks and ratings earned in the navy.

Tyler Texas December 7 Wrank Bogue a prosperous farmer of Van Zandt County was knocked to the head and robbed of 100 dollars and some woke while on his way home about fifteen miles from Tyler. His injuries are not serious. No arrests yet.
