London reports indicate General Roberts cannot reach Pretoria soon as remounts and winter weather slow operations. Bra bant’s forces are active near Rouxville and Bloemfontein while logistics strain the railway and supply lines amid cautious optimism in dispatches.
A Morning Post dispatch from Bloemfontein on Saturday warns the war will be extremely expensive. It notes required remounts, large numbers arriving, and that many must be worked immediately, with depot formation and nursing facilities to sustain life and strength over four to five months.
