Brookings Institution warns wholesale prices up 21 percent since 1939 and blames rising farm prices and labor costs. It urges limits on both wage rates and farm prices, arguing price control without wage restraint fuels inflation amid a war economy.
LITTLE ROCK the Supreme Court agreed Monday to hear a Pulaski county case on November 3 challenging the 1941 act authorizing appointment of a delinquent personal tax collector in each county. Chancery Judge Dodge ruled the act unconstitutional. county officials had enjoined appointments.
Officials of the Southwestern Prairieing Ground warned Hempstead stock owners Monday that any stock found on the reservation after December 2 would be rounded up and advertised for sale. The situation poses dangers to truck drivers and other workers, and to night employees. Hempstead County also has a stock law prohibiting cattle or other stock from grazing on public roads.

New York reports Joe Louis plans to defend the world heavyweight crown against Lou Nova at the Polo Grounds on Monday night with Promoter Mike Jacobs predicting a crowd around 60 000. Louis holds a long title reign with 18 defenses and faces Nova a physically strong challenger who has spent months training in Maine and New Jersey and aims to end Louis six year dream of winning the title.

Lester Wade Hempstead county game warden announces a0 day squirrel season starting October 1 and urges non residents to obtain licenses while noting residents need none. He predicts good season with plentiful squirrels and an eight squirrel limit per hunter. Wade and assistant Earl J Barham warn violators face strict enforcement.

Rome reports Italian torpedo planes sunk three British cruisers and at least three merchant ships in a nine hour attack on a Mediterranean convoy. The British allege raids on Sicily Rhodes and North Africa. Italy says one Italian destroyer was damaged and a hospital was hit.
