Four Killed in Plane Crash at Drake Field
Four persons died when a light plane crashed and burned after takeoff at Drake Field near Fayetteville. Victims include Raymond Hurdlebrink, 56, of Kansas City. One Officer Killed in Cleveland
In Cleveland an officer was killed and another wounded when approaching a stopped car after a chase at an east side intersection. Patrolman Joseph Tracy, nearing his first year on the force, died. Patrolman Fred Fulton, a three year veteran, remained hospitalized in serious condition with chest and leg wounds. The suspect's car was left at the scene. Evidence showed Tracy moved to the car front and Fulton to the rear. shots pierced the windshield.

Candidate Found Shot to Death in Missouri Campaign HQ
John W. Peters 49, Republican candidate for Missouri's 2nd District, was found shot to death in the basement of his campaign headquarters in Brentwood. Deputy medical examiner Robert C. Ryan said Peters apparently committed suicide, a 16 gauge shotgun found beside the body. Peters had doubled the vote of his nearest rival in the August primary and was to face incumbent Rep. James W. Symington in the November election. The GOP committee will name a successor. The 2nd District covers St Louis County surrounding the city, which is excluded.

Hope Melons Featured On National TV Show
Hope and its world famous watermelons gained national publicity Saturday night on the Let's Make A Deal show. Master of Ceremonies Monty Hall opened the curtain to reveal over a ton of melons behind it. Hall also praised C M Rogers and Carter Russell for bringing the watermelons to the program. This marks the second year Rogers and Russell appeared on national television with a large Hope Melon display, last year hosted by Glen Campbell from Arkansas.

Nine of Thirteen Freed on Bond in Wynne Trouble
Nine of thirteen men held on charges of nightriding linked to Parkin disturbances were freed Saturday after posting property bonds of 5 000 to 10 000 dollars.
