The Associated Press reports Arkansas will have partly cloudy skies through Saturday with warm days and cool nights. Widely scattered showers are expected Saturday. The extended outlook shows cool nights and gradually warming days with little or no rain Sunday onward.
Light rainfall spread across Arkansas Thursday night with amounts under one tenth inch. Texarkana and El Dorado reported .03 inches, Little Rock .02, Pine Bluff .10, Jonesboro .04. Overnight lows ranged from 57 to 64 across several cities. An offshore Gulf low feeds moisture into eastern Arkansas while a northwest cold front approaches. Experiment station records show 68 high and 58 low for the 24 hours ending 7 a.m. Friday. The Star reports circulation and AP copyright disclaimers for Hope Ark publication.
Willem de Kooning's painting Woman V, once costing under $3,000 in 1953, sold to the Australian National Gallery in Canberra for a reported 850,000 dollars, topping previous records for Picasso works. Chicago dealer Robert Gray noted inflation as a factor.
The group featuring Larry Keel and Brenda Calhoun will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Civic Center in Prescott. A local black women’s club, Progressive Young Black Women’s Club, formed to strengthen ties with Hope’s community, invites 18 to 35 year olds to meetings at City Park Youth Center on the first and third Mondays each month. Officers and by-laws will be set at the October 7 meeting. University of Arkansas education student teachers are in 15 Arkansas cities including Bentonville, Fayetteville, and Prairie Grove, with names linked to Hope, Prescott, and Nashville. Johnnie Harrel Honeycutt of Hope earned a D.D.S. at University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences commencement in Memphis. Henderson State College and Ouachita Baptist University Physics students hosted a seminar by Paul W. Klipsch and Associates on modern loudspeaker systems. A Fort Smith or Warren house explosion on East Seventh Street was confirmed to belong to Raymond Colen of Warren, not O N Dennis.
Obituary notices report the deaths of Mrs Gladys Coleman DeBoer 59 of 6908 Juniper Road and Henry Fears Russell 76 of Hope. Services for DeBoer were held Friday at Griffin Leggett with burial at Rest Hills. Russell’s services are planned for Saturday at Smith Funeral Home in Lewisville with burial in Wilson Cemetery. Survivors include DeBoer husband Frank and children Michael and Patricia Ann. Russell wife Hazel and three sons, a daughter, and extended relatives. Additional notices reference Clyde Toland 80 of Hempstead County and Hazel Bowden Toland’s relatives.
North Little Rock School Board revised suspension and expulsion rules to meet a federal court order. The changes require officials to hear students first and impose definite suspension durations after a fight at Northeast High School.
The TJ Goodwin family two miles south of Bodcaw are named Nevada County Farm Family of the Year for 1974 and will be honored at a Little Rock awards luncheon December 6. They run beef cattle, poultry, watermelons, peas, corn and hay on 40 acres of hay and manage two 15,000 capacity broiler houses with modern equipment.
