Power Tax Move Sharply Attacked
Curtis Cannon’s plan to tax hydro electric power to fund schoolbooks drew sharp criticism from W. A. McCabe, Baxter county’s representative. McCabe warned such levies would stifle Arkansas water power development, raise living costs, and shift tax burdens to farmers and consumers, arguing the state would lose both dams and tax revenue. The dispute, tied to regional energy growth, reflects debates over industrial progress and public education funding.
