Condemnation awards reversed in Arkansas highway cases
The Arkansas Supreme Court reversed five or six jury awards in highway right of way condemnations from Conway County cases. Opinions by Justices Fogleman Byrd Harris and Brown found insufficient evidence for awards totaling tens of thousands on several tracts along Highway 9 and Interstate 40, with one judgment for 5,000 upheld for 5.76 acres. The Diaz term included dissents and a note on a historic nonannouncement of John Tyler’s death.

Quits Over Expense Account Error in Arkansas Revenue
State Revenue Commissioner Bob Scott said a top department official, David L. Jones, resigned after an expense account error surfaced in the system he built. Jones, 37, of Dardanelle, cited a cloud on his accounts and his duty to keep others accurate. He admitted an erroneous charge pattern tied to a New Orleans trip, 25 miles daily by secretary’s entry, with 450 miles round trip credited.
