Wall Street closed with cotton futures near Wednesday highs. December and March contracts showed small moves, finishing close to prior levels. New York spot middling held at 7.59 as stocks fluctuated and bonds remained steady amid cautious trading.
Marshall Eason a DeWitt farmer was shot while on his porch early Thursday. A rifle bullet from a nearby corn field fractured his jaw and he was taken to a Stuttgart hospital. Sheriff investigators pursue the ambush as Eason had been acquitted months earlier in a murder case.
A coroner's jury ruled the death of 2 year old Lee Powell in Trumann Arkansas resulted from a whipping by stepfather Herman Ledbetter during a wood hauling trip. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Louis Minton said a murder charge would be filed once Ledbetter is arrested.
The State Highway Commission awarded the contract for furnishing automobile license tags for 1933 to S. G. Adams Stamp & Seal Co. of St. Louis. The commission planned a Thursday conference with T. H. McDonald, head of the U S Bureau of Public Roads, to seek 4 2 million dollars for Arkansas road work.
The City of New York offers a 5000 dollar reward for information leading to the location of Joseph Force Crater 41 years old six feet tall 185 pounds with gray hair brown eyes and a false upper and lower jaw. He was last seen with a damaged right index finger and had been recently injured. He is in good physical and mental condition.
A heavy duty biplane undergoes tests in London designed to carry 93 tons with a crew of ten and a large fuel load for non stop flights over hundreds of miles. The craft features a 120 foot wing span and is powered by six 825 horsepower engines.
The Literary Digest reports Hoover ahead of Roosevelt in early nationwide straw poll results. Of 60,327 ballots, Hoover 28,193 and Roosevelt 27,654, with 7.43 percent for five minor candidates led by Norman Thomas. Hoover leads Indiana and New York. Roosevelt leads Ohio Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
A 1930 disappearance of Justice Joseph Force Crater remains unsolved after a long police search and $200,000 spent. Crater stepped into a New York taxicab after dining with friends and was last seen heading to the Port of Missing Men.

Neighbors saved most household goods. The house was owned by J. M. Enyard of Lewisville.

London reports Handley Fage asserts that large commercial transports once built for airways can be converted into war craft. He says these huge biplanes can be transformed into bombers capable of carrying four tons of bombs in wartime.
Washington reports a drop in applications for bank railroad and insurance loans from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation as pressure eases. Director Wilson McCarty says the unfavorable period between February 1 and July 15 has passed and 7 percent loans for agricultural and livestock credit are planned. Managers from 14 offices will meet here Friday to advance agricultural credit corporations.
FOONA India reports talks between a special committee of Hindus and depressed classes with Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi opposes British plans to extend voting rights by caste groupings and peasants, urging a broad franchise without caste reference as a democratic system for India.
Deputy prohibition administrator E A Larkin and special officer Paul Sullivan were shot and wounded early Thursday after a raid on an illicit still near their car. Larkin sustained buckshot wounds and was taken to a hospital. Sullivan suffered lesser injuries. A black assailant was wounded during the exchange, with several others fleeing.
Three year old Roy Coleman Jr. suffered a severe facial injury after a mule kicked him while he approached the animal feeding near the Coleman home three miles northwest of Hope on the Washington road. He was reported in serious condition Thursday.
