River bill not sought to create scenic stream system
ROCK AP The Steam Preservation committee will not pursue a statewide bill this year to create a scenic rivers system. Dr Joe Nix of Arkadelphia said after meeting Gov Dale Bumpers that the governor prefers the panel continue studying Arkansas streams and propose easements rather than condemnation. Bumpers plans a possible 5 to 10 million dollar appropriation, likely with federal funds, to begin a stream bank easement program. The governor wants recommendations on which streams to save and what easements are needed. Nix said landowners could be approached to sell scenic easements with activity limited by the easement. if a landowner refuses, that ends it.

Astronauts Refuse Interviews Over Signature Profits
SPACE CENTER, Houston AP Astronauts have refused to talk about selling autographs for personal profit. Alan B. The agency previously disclosed signatures sold for about $5 each to a German dealer, proceeds sometimes donated to charity, with two Apollo 15 astronauts still at NASA declining interviews on the topic.
