Economic auto strike effects grow as Ford workers walk out. Hundreds of supplier and transportation jobs vanish and 160000 Ford plant workers are affected nationwide. Ken Bannon predicts six more weeks and a broader strike with dues increase proposed. Ford empire workers begin collecting strike benefits while Ford withholds component orders for 1968 models.

In Washington Heights a basement storage trunk labeled Anne Solomon held three mummified infants swaddled and laid side by side. The House Post Office Committee approved legislation raising postal rates across the board and granting pay raises to over two million federal employees and postal workers. The bill, a 19 to 6 vote, would boost letter and card rates, include three stage increases for second class postage, and raise third class rates in January. The pay measure adds a six percent raise for postal workers and 24.5 percent for other federal employees effective October 1.

The body of Mrs. Alfred G. Wilson will be brought to Detroit from Brussels Belgium for services Tuesday, believed to be from a heart attack. She was previously married to auto dealer John F. Dodge, wed lumberman Alfred G. Wix in 1925 after Dodge died in 1920, and Wix died in 1962.
