The Senator debuts on NBC Bold Ones in tense unrest scene
AP reviewer Cynthia Lowry describes The Senator as a bold pilot for NBC with Hal Holbrook as a professed dream senator facing a student unrest and a life threatened by an anonymous call. The hour mixes police action with reflections on dissent, White House briefings, and DC crime law debates. NBC also aired George M. Cohan musical adaptation, which critics found overlong and underrealized despite Joel Gray’s spirited performance.
