Tax Talk Applies Costs to Big Fellows in U S Steel Case
The piece argues Truman's tax plan shifts costs to consumers via indirect taxes and price markups, hitting big corporations like U S Steel first. It cites retroactive tax features raising federal taxes by about 23 percent for U S Steel and predicts higher car prices as Ford, Chrysler, and GM respond. The author condemns the administration for misleading, dragging the cost of living down to city slum levels.
