Teacher of Prescott Loses Case

The Arkansas Supreme Court ruled that public school teachers are not state employees and thus not entitled to workers compensation under act 462 of 1949. The decision comes in the suit by Mrs. Donald Muse against Prescott School District after her husband, a Prescott High coach, died of a heart attack on March 29, 1960, and the district blocked the case from workers compensation consideration. The court upheld prior holdings that teachers are local district employees, not state employees. The court also affirmed a Benton County Chancery Court ruling that Bank of Bentonville has no legal interest in $6,000 of turkeys Swift & Co bought from Dale Moore.
