The National Weather Service forecasts Arkansans will experience slightly cooler temperatures on Tuesday with fair to partly cloudy skies. No precipitation is anticipated in the short term, and the extended outlook suggests continued mild conditions.
Hope Star reports a chance of showers in the western part of the state Thursday with no rain expected statewide through Friday. A weak cold front moves into the northwest then southern portions by sunset, with light variable moisture south of the front. Experiment station data show highs around 89 to 92 and lows near 69 to 72, tracing a warm partly cloudy pattern across Arkansas today and tonight.

Maj. Gen. Tom Phillips of Little Rock and Arkansas adjutant general since 1971 died at Baptist Medical Center after an apparent heart attack. Gov. Dale Bumpers lauded his public service and leadership as immunization efforts proceeded statewide. Phillips, a Berryville native, served in the U.S. Navy and Korea before taking high command in the Arkansas National Guard, earning multiple campaign and service medals.

Hope City Police logged 15 traffic violations last week with 12 license cases. Six drunkenness cases and four DWI followed by two liquor violations and two disturbing the peace incidents. One person charged with carrying a concealed weapon and another refused a breath test. Accidents numbered 14 that week with one injury. year totals show 231 accidents, 27 injuries, and three deaths.
In Manaus Brazil police consider burning some 40000 pelts seized by wildlife agents. The skins include multiple jungle wildcat species and were confiscated during preservation enforcement. The move aims to dispose of the illegally obtained pelts while authorities review legal and environmental implications.
Red River Vocational Technical School in Hope lists four new continuing education options: Public Relations, Financial Management, Safety, and Business Law.
