Declarer plans trump play in four spades
South should draw trumps only after knocking out the ace of clubs or once clubs are established. A 3-3 trump split is common, but a 4-2 split threatens the contract. If East ducks clubs, abandon the suit and direct the play to ruff in dummy, preserving four trumps to beat or limit loss. The bidding suggests a two no trump response with 12 points may be best given partner’s likely minimum hand.
