Army Nurse Corps celebrated in ongoing historical review
The Army Nurse Corps began in 1901 as the first women’s U.S. military component and the world’s first military nursing corps. Civilian nurses helped during the Spanish-American War, and the corps has since provided nursing care to service members and their families. Today about 4,700 Army nurses serve worldwide, with 1,660 new since 1955.
