Peace outlook on Kyushu as Japan seeks postwar order
In Kokura and across Kyushu, Japanese and American observers agree Japan is ready for a peace treaty but favor maintaining U S troops after signing. They fear ideological upheaval if forces depart, discuss unraveling economy, demand food, power, machinery, and medicines, and praise General MacArthur while endorsing a new constitution that curbs imperial power.

Veterans Aide Rules Revise On Farm Training Policy
Washington Sept 3 A program of combined on farm classroom training under the GI bill as a media by Congress test session was put in effect today by the Veterans Administration. Last summer Gen Omar Bradley ruled that in the job farm trainees away from schools could not be full time trainees and were not eligible for subsistence allowances. Protests push renewal of Public Law 377 which sets up institutional on farm training with at least 200 hours of classroom instruction yearly for trainee at an accredited institution. The veteran must receive at least 1 half of the instruction on the farm. Full time institutional on farm training may receive subsistence not exceeding 4100 a month if no dependents or 200 with dependents. Institutional on farm training under the GI bill is not to be confused with the farmer readjustment allowance program which permits unemployed farmers or those farming to receive up to 100 a month in unemployment allowances.
