Bengals Pro Charts Preview for 1972 Season
The Cincinnati Bengals enter 1972 with a young, improving roster after a 4-10 finish in 1971. Key questions at quarterback between Virgil Carter and Ken Anderson, multiple backs rotate behind Fred Willis, and a tall receiving corps led by Bob Trumpy and Chip Myers. Defenses rely on Bill Bergey, Mike Reid, and rookie Jim LeClair to push pass rush, while Crops Casanova and Riley anchor the secondary. Predicted second in the division under Paul Brown's continued drive for a title shot.
Placekickers Benefit From Longer Inbound Markers
Pro football winter rule change moved inbound markers three feet toward mid field. Kickers gain better angle from close in though distance may not change. Preseason action underway with Jan Stenerud and others showcasing longer range on 37 to 57 yard boots.
