Retirement of Law Was No Surprise
Vernon Law retired from the Pittsburgh Pirates after 16 seasons hampered by arm trouble and a groin injury at age 37. The club, long a losing squad, saw Law win only two games this year and miss peak form he once showed as a top pitcher. He helped the Pirates to a 1960 World Series title and earned the league’s best pitcher honors during his career.
