The Associated Press reports heavy rainfall ends for Arkansas this week yet cloud cover and light rain persist in Central and North Arkansas through Wednesday. Cool temperatures hold until a warming trend Thursday. Hot Springs Man Given Suspended Prison Terms

James E. Arivette a 24 year old from Bizbee Arizona received two seven year suspended sentences after pleading guilty to kidnapping in Garland County Arkansas. He was previously convicted March 2 1964 of robbing a Hot Springs liquor store of 500 dollars and abducting clerk Roman Pung 52 who was later released unharmed. A claim his right to counsel and trial by jury were violated led Judge Henry Britt to set aside earlier 15 year sentences. Ardivedney had an additional year for escaping state prison on Nov 1 1964, which Britt ruled had already been served.

Viet Cong Shells Saigon Palace During Thieu Reception

Viet Cong shells struck near the Saigon presidential palace as President Thieu hosted Vice President Humphrey and 2,000 guests. A mortar round hit outside, wounding three. The attack triggered counterbattery fire and helicopter flares, but the reception continued with no major damage to the palace and guests remaining in place. Westmoreland noted the blasts, and security teams coordinated on walkie talkies throughout the event.
