President Lyndon Johnson defends against charges of racism and outlines his vision of equal opportunity and national progress. He rejects division by color, cites the need for universal education, social security medical care, space exploration, and universal peace as horizons for all Americans.
An accounting firm hired by the Committee for the Two-Party System recommends replacing the offices of state treasurer auditor secretary of state and land commissioner with a unified Department of Administration to streamline fiscal control and data processing. The proposal excludes duplicative structures and aims for centralized budgetary oversight.

Barry Goldwater ridiculed Lyndon Johnson as lacking grass roots support while campaigning in Ohio and the Midwest.
