Man wounded after Batesville armory break in
A Melbourne man, 47, was shot and in fair condition in Batesville hospital after a night outside the National Guard Armory in Batesville. Prosecutor Leroy Blankenship said he would charge Jack L. Gustafson Sr. with burglary attempted theft and solicitation to commit capital murder for allegedly breaking into the armory to steal automatic weapons. Seven ATF agents aided the investigation. Gustafson was shot by deputy Everett St Clair when fleeing after an alarm. The armory vault held a large quantity of automatic weapons. Gustafson had been free on bond after August arrest on burglary and theft charges.

Adair to try explosive stop on Elk Hills geyser
Red Adair and one assistant head to Elk Hills Naval Oil Reserve near Taft California to blast the wellhead and cut off oxygen to a massive oil and gas fire that killed three workers. The explosion at 2 40 pm Tuesday sent flames over 100 feet high and threatens a billion barrels of oil underground. Oil is burning at about 12000 barrels a day as crews cool the area and attempt to free a packer stuck in the 7000 foot well. The three victims were George Vanhoozen Mark Morvant and Bobby Fuqua all from Louisiana.

Stevens man among three killed in Arkansas crashes
Three people died in separate Arkansas traffic accidents. George Murphy, 25, of Norman was killed near Mount Ida when his car left the highway and struck a tree on US 270.
