Catholic Digest founder turns idea into reality in 25th anniversary
In 1936 Rev Louis A Gales mailed dummy digest covers to about 9000 Catholics seeking subscriptions. Two months later he and Rev Paul Bussard planned Catholic Digest, which now marks 25 years, with 751000 paid US circulation, 15000 newsstand sales, 10 foreign editions, Braille edition and 56,000 in a bank club. A second magazine is planned for the Catholic trade market. In Camden Ark, the Ouachita River Valley Association proposed channelization of the Saline River to nine feet, tying the project to a deepening plan and a leisure boat on the Ouachita.
