Vitamin A Doses Can Halt Cancer
AP Science Writer reports that large doses of vitamin A may halt the development of lung cancer in hamsters by blocking tumor formation. Italian-born Dr. Umberto Saffiotti of Chicago Medical School cautions against using vitamin A or carrots as a cancer preventive for humans, noting toxicity can occur. The study links inhaled dust carrying benzo[a]pyrene to lung cancer and describes how benzpyrene spreads in the lungs, with hamsters exposed to dust plus benzpyrene developing tumors. Separately in Austin, Mrs. Albert Herrera gave birth to a boy Gerard, her 20th child, saying she would welcome more if the Lord allows.
