Daylight Saving Time ends and fatal highway collision near Hope

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday under the Uniform Time Act of 1967. A head on crash on Highway 6 about nine miles west of Hope killed two 19 year old girls Tonito Tackett and Denise Rogers. Johnny Fricks 20 of Fort Smith, driver of the other car, was critically injured. Victor Drobeka 20 of Butler Pa. was listed as satisfactorily injured.

Burglary Suspect Wilbert Shaw, 12, Cited in Shambles Home

Police report a 12 year old Black youth named Wilbert Ray Shaw burglarized Travis Estes’s home at 500 South Banner. He allegedly wrecked the house, stole two watches and pennies, and was later found with items from the crime. He admitted a prior break in at Mrs. Lamar Cox’s home on October 3, taking a gold watch and $160. The youth was turned over to juvenile authorities.

Two Wanted for Burning of Churches in Arkansas

Union County authorities report one arrest and warrants for two more in the arson of two churches near El Dorado. Willie Cook Jr., 19, of Minden La., was taken into custody. Warrants issued for Billy Mason, 18, a student in Monroe La. and Staff Sgt. Henry Black, 36, at Barksdale AFB. Charges include arson and grave desecration for the Good Hope Primitive Baptist Church and the Springhill Baptist Church.
