FCC Asked to Reverse Refusal in Pine Bluff Hearing

In Pine Bluff Arkansas AP report attorney Walek for the FCC asked examiner Lonalue to reconsider a ruling denying testimony from residents of southeastern Arkansas towns. The hearing centers on whether KATV can move its transmitter 12 miles west of Little Rock amid an agreement with the Pine Bluff Chamber of Commerce. Witnesses for station Pine Bluff and the chamber were to conclude their testimony while witnesses for Pine Bluff and the chamber were set to stand. Mrs Barbara McHenry testified on Pine Bluff charity drives, noting she never originated a Pine Bluff show. Officials warned of a bleak economic outlook if the transmitter move proceeds.

Woman Placed on Probation for Bank Embezzlement Case

LITTLE ROCK AP Judge v. Smith Henley placed Mrs. Jewett Dillinger Self on two years probation after hearing a tale of a baby sitter stealing part of $5000 she embezzled from the Bank of Arkansas. Self pleaded guilty to embezzlement as Assistant U.S. Attorney M. Drew Bowers said the money was taken from an open money sack in the bank vault. Bowers added that about $3000 was later found missing from Self's home. She confessed the embezzled funds were spent on clothes, groceries, and a television set, all within a month. Her husband earned $65 weekly in a restaurant.

Freight derailment halts traffic near Tuckerman Arkansas

A Missouri Pacific freight train derailed a wheel set near Tuckerman trailing a five hour delay on the St. Louis to Little Rock line. Officials said no derailment occurred. A North Little Rock crew repaired the train and traffic returned to normal.
