Amendment 51 Abolishes Land Agency and Raises Salaries
Arkansas voters face Amendment 51 on November 3 to abolish the Land Department as a constitutional office while allowing raises for most state officials. If approved the governor’s pay would rise to 18 000 dollars and the lieutenant governor to 3600 dollars, with secretary of state treasurer and auditor at 10 000 dollars and the attorney general at 12 000 dollars. The proposal mirrors prior failed amendments but adds the land agency abolition and leaves campaign arguments sparse.
