Pablo Neruda the Communist poet and Chilean statesman won the Nobel Prize in Literature for works that shaped Latin America's destiny and dreams. Rewarded for Getting Involved in Santa Clara County
San Jose residents Kenneth Williamson and Judy Wroblewski shared a $25,000 reward for tips that helped arrest Karl Francis Werner, the San Jose State student who pleaded guilty to murder in the knife slayings of three teenage girls. Werner received a life sentence. Williamson, who works at a park, and Wroblewski, a library clerk, had been targeted for involvement after reporting sightings and encounters matching the killer. The reward was offered after the Easter Sunday murder of Kathy Bilek in Saratoga Park. Annie Stockton of Prescott, 88, died. final rites were held with burial in DeAnn Cemetery, Prescott.
