Reopening of Amaton testing station to resume Friday
Hope city council orders the Amaton mobile testing station at Fairpark reopened this Friday after weeks of closure. The Arkansas supreme court decision barred Chancellor Walker Smith of Union county from blocking enforcement of the state auto testing provisions. Union chancery had halted enforcement with a temporary injunction against state police Superintendent Albright and other officers. The council also approved $1,900 for Hope Chamber of Commerce expenses in the courthouse election contest and authorized dues to the Arkansas Municipal League. Additional items include police uniform costs, a rate study for electricity sales to Rural Electrical Administration customers, sewer complaints on Third Street, and a pavement aid plan offering one third materials cost with the WPA to cover labor.
