A congressman paid high tribute to Hempstead county's native son at a Hope meeting. The speaker urged civic duty and warned against socialism, stressing jury service and voting as core responsibilities. The ABC tour then moved to Prescott and will end with a banquet in Arkadelphia tonight.
Mr and Mrs Kim G Ferguson of Evanston Illinois donated 50000 to Wayland College in cash common stocks and pledges. Ferguson flew from Evanston to attend a special trustees session saying Wayland is the right road for a small Christian college. The Fergusons earlier gave a pipe organ to Ouachita College in Arkadelphia Arkansas.
Arkansas farmers see better conditions for harvest after wet weather, with dry sunny days boosting cotton readiness. Harvest progress ranges from 40 to 80 percent complete in southern counties, 28 to 60 percent in central and east central counties, and 80 to 40 percent in northern counties, while soybeans and other crops also show good progress.

Pil James M Bohart public relations counselor born in Bentonville died in Little Rock at age 44 nine weeks after a heart attack. He came to Little Rock in 1942 from Fayetteville where he was sports editor city editor and editor of the Northwest Arkansas Times. He was a 1929 University of Arkansas graduate member of Sigma Chi. Survivors include his widow Ora Watson two daughters Pamela and Shannon his mother Elizabeth Bohart and burial set for Bentonville.
A proposed 277000 dollar revenue pond issue to finance improvements of the sewer and water system was rejected in yesterday's special election with 248 votes to 158.

Warren E Bray, Bell’s Arkansas general manager, denied hints the company extended rural service to block rural phones.
Two church groups wrapped up conferences in Arkansas on Tuesday and two more carried on sessions Wednesday. In Hot Springs, Pine Bluff native Herbert Mc Glennery was reelected president of the Arkansas Baptists Sunday School convention, with Patsy Webb of Hot Springs elected secretary and district vice presidents named. A Catholic Women’s National Council convention in Little Rock concluded with Frances Robert named president, and local officers elected. In Little Rock, meetings continued for Methodist and Lutheran groups, including a leadership conference of the Women’s Society of Christian Service and the Western Synod pastoral gathering attended by participants from across Arkansas and neighboring states.
