Beacon To Guard Rice From Ducks Beacon To Guard Rice From Ducks
Stuttgart, Oct 1 Experiments to cut rice losses from wild ducks and geese will be conducted near Stuttgart by Arkansas Power and Light. A large revolving beacon with a 1000 watt lamp will be mounted on C. C. Cox’s fence line to drive away fowl. The red light beacon, loaned by General Electric, has shown promise in the West for coyotes and may deter waterfowl with a six to seven mile radius. Cropprofits have suffered in recent years due to fowl damage, especially in wet harvest periods. With food scarcity between Canadian breeding grounds and the rice region, losses may exceed prior levels unless protection is used.
