Arkansas farm income rose five percent above the national average last year to 3593 dollars per farm, led by a 30 percent gain in cash receipts from farm marketings. Despite higher production, expenses climbed 45 percent and total net income for farming was lower than in 1952. The number of farms dropped from 163000 to 90000 over the decade, leaving a more productive, expanding core.

Faubus cites telecast questions for Arkansas Texas clash
Gov. Orval Faubus suggested arrangements should be made to televise the Arkansas Texas football game on October 19 but said he would not lead Arkansas officials in urging telecast. He noted the university’s stance on radio broadcasts and discussed ticket distribution protests by University of Arkansas students. He pointed to expanding Razorback Stadium and cited War Memorial Stadium seating limits, with the Texas game already sold out and ticket allocation remaining university’s responsibility until more seats exist.
