Negro loses Memphis mayoral bid in first runoffs race
In Memphis Tennessee W Willis the state’s first Negro legislator in over fifty years failed to unite a coalition and finish ahead of six white candidates in a bid for mayor. He trailed to Henry Loeb and William Ingram and Will Morris in the runoff tally with 15755 votes for Willis and 47784 for Loeb, 36704 for Ingram, 30979 for Morris. Willis conceded the result saying the race exposed issues to be answered later.

WALDRON Ark three persons were killed and two seriously injured when a car struck a repair truck on U S 7 about a mile south of Waldron. Victims were Mrs Selma Seamons Mrs Nettie McGraw and Mrs Lorraine Crain all of El Dorado. Driver Evan R Coles 64 of El Dorado said he could not stop in time. Coles and his wife 60 were hospitalized.
