One of the largest Masonic gatherings in Hope met at the Masonic hall to hear C. Eugene Smith 33rd degree Mason from Little Rock and grand worshipful master of the Arkansas grand lodge. Also on stage were Claiae Rankin Dr. Francis Vinsonhaler and Jefferson Allison with visitors from multiple towns.
Hope city fathers at Tuesday night’s meeting agreed to ask the federal government for a loan of 12000 to 15000 dollars to build a public natatorium and bath house in Fair Park this winter. Engineer R B Stanford presented plans for a 75 by 150 foot pool with sanitary chlorination and white cement construction. The project would be city owned yet operated by a public corporation with a separate board and full life guard and police protection.
J. E. Morehouse, 47, once a leader in the motor car industry in New York and Detroit, was found with a bullet in his head in a Chicago loop hotel. A note described him as "another victim of the low mood," marking his death as a self-inflicted act.
Tracey Hughes 22 miles NW of Hope dies after a truck leaves Bankhead highway near Fulton Tuesday night. Wilbur Hughes later dies in Texarkana hospital. C E Hester suffers a broken jaw and non serious injuries. The trio from Saratoga were en route to Texarkana. Tracey’s body brought home for burial.
Cotton dropped on Wednesday with the New York market closing at 6.99 for a loss of 45 cents per bale from Tuesday. March contracts fell 11 points to 5 5/8 cents per pound, while December contracts closed at 7.13. Opened at 7.18, the price slipped after midday with no sales reported on the New York spot.
The Parent- Teachers association council of Hope's public schools met in regular session at the city hall Tuesday afternoon with president Mrs. Dorsey McRae presiding. Dr. A M Harding of the University of Arkansas confirmed October 21 as the date for Dr Meyers lecture on parent education. Miss Kent, state supervisor of home economics, spoke on better homes and better parents for better children. Attendance by schools: Junior-Senior High 14, Brookweed 16, Oglesby 15, Paisley 12.

In Memphis P Harry Kelly a former police judge and legislator died Wednesday after a long Shelby County career. Executives of leading U S railroads met in New York to discuss a 20 percent wage cut for rail workers and potential compromise with President Hoover on delaying wage reductions until year’s end.
President Hoover campaigned for re election defending Republican farm tariff policies. He argued the protective tariff safeguards American agriculture and warned that Democratic calls for lower tariffs would harm farmers. He cited home markets, foreign competition, and price comparisons to argue for maintaining and widening tariffs on farm products.
In CANBY Minnesota a father Ole Anderson 47 and his son Leonard 19 were arrested for the slaying of Mordahl Peterson 25 a former farm picket shot to death a mile west of Canby Tuesday night. The son admitted driving past the roadside picket tent where Peterson stood when the shotgun fired.
Ben Mitchell, a negro, was arrested after a Tuesday night crash at the Yater intersection of the Blevin highways in the north city. Three white victims suffered injuries including a boy thrown through a windshield. Mitchell released Wednesday. hearing likely Monday.

Alfred Wallace, 67, was found slain with an axe at his rural store on February 5. Ed Washington, a black man from Spring Hill, pleaded guilty to the murder and received a life sentence after two confessions implicated white men, but no corroborating evidence led to indictments against Hays or Aaron. The October grand jury handed 14 true bills and 10 no bills as officials praised the effort of the Hempstead circuit court personnel.
