Not Listening Says Barry of Hedging
WALLINGTON AP Barry Goldwater said today those who claim he hedges his conservatism for the 1964 GOP nomination have not listened to his remarks. He stressed he has not changed his fundamental positions though noting occasional shifts to meet times. He cited support for Kennedy era authority to sue to enforce school integration if narrowly applied, while opposing federal forces to enforce segregation except as constitutionally permitted. He corrected a records mix up about an Aug 24 Montclair speech misattributed to him and quoted critic Skibbins on why conservatives fear the label.
