In Washington, Rep. Louis T. McFadden proposed trading British and French possessions in the Caribbean to liquidate war debts. He cited the Bahama Islands and nearby British possessions as strategic bases and noted France’s Caribbean holdings in the broader debt discussion. In London, Britain sent a note seeking suspension of the 95 million dollar December payment, while the pound fell to a record low but Britain pledged not to default.
Cecil Glover, 23, was held in Texarkana on Wednesday awaiting a preliminary hearing for the Tuesday night slaying of his brother in law Albert Snead, 42, near Fouke. He admitted shooting Snead because of how Snead treated his younger sister.
Crawford county will have a lady constable when Mrs. T. F. Fuller wears a star and carries a pistol on January 1 in Uniontown. She was write–in elected with only opponent Lee Howell as voter. She plans to deputize her husband for rough work if needed.
DeEmmett Brashaw of Omaha and formerly of Little Rock, who has served as general attorney of the Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Association since 1916, was elected national commander at a special session of the sovereign camp held Wednesday in Omaha Nebraska.
Rivalry between Hope and Prescott renews as two all star squads, comprising former high school and college stars, meet at Hope High School with Teddy Jones as Hope quarterback and captain. The game starts at 7 30 under floodlights, Amercian Legion sponsors. Expect several all state players and a lineup featuring Wilkin Rump Porterfield Hutson O Neal Schooley Schooley Wise Cornelius Reeves Jones Cook Butler Brown Waller Lynn Harrell Jimmy Jones. The first Hope practice is Wednesday night.
The North West District Dental Society meets in Fort Smith and awards the 1933 convention to the city. Delegates attend from Little Rock Fort Smith Ozark Gentry Clarksville Rogers Fayetteville and Joplin Missouri.
Hickman Perkins, a 55 year old African American worker at the Hope Heading Company for over 18 years, died Sunday after a brief illness. He was buried Tuesday afternoon at Cave Hill Cemetery. Perkins was an active church member and well known in Hope.
The Hope Order of Eastern Star will meet Thursday night at 7 30 at the Masonic hall on South Elm street. All officers and members are urged to attend.
Dr. George F. Jackson, Arkansas Kiwanis lieutenant governor, praises Hope club for its strong year at a New Capital Hotel meeting. He presents a Canadian flag won at a district picnic as the club’s top traveling miles winner. Carolyn Barr entertained, Parks Fisher led singing, and a dinner formed an emblematic K. About 25 high school football players and Coach Teddy Jones are invited to the next meeting where T. M. Clifford will speak.
The Leslie Huddleston post of the American Legion and the Ladies auxiliary plan a joint meeting at city hall at 7 o clock Thursday night. All members are urged to attend.
Cecil Hicks of Columbus was hunted at Grassy Lake on 40 hundred acres of private ground near Bois d Arc. Hicks, arraigned in Justice Suggs court, was acquitted by a nine member jury after defense claimed the club’s grounds were not a closed enclosure and open on the south side along Yellow Creek. An appeal by the hunting club is anticipated.
Paris reports Edouard Herriot considers gradual abandonment of import quotas linked to new trade treaties. French exporters push for liberal policy and reciprocity while American business interests in Paris resist. Trade officials weigh tariff tweaks and industrial ententes to replace quotas.
Sheriff and collector John L. Wilson received his second term commission Wednesday giving him 16 years of consecutive elective service in Hempstead county. He plans to run for state senator when his term ends in 1934. He has served four years as county clerk eight as county judge and four as sheriff. The commission is signed by Governor Parnell and Secretary of State McDonald.
Speaker Garner indicated the House is likely to vote on the Democratic prohibition repeal proposal next Monday. He cited Missouri Democrat Milligan as showing a swing toward repeal among Democrats and said he is pretty certain a vote will occur Monday.
Warm Springs Georgia reports renewed study of farm relief and budget balancing as Senator Huey P. Long and Senator-Elect Bennett Clark visit to confer with Roosevelt aides handling the farm relief program. Long says he is there to talk about post offices. Other callers include Representative Jones, chair of the House Agriculture Committee.
Bentonville Arkansas report on United States Senator E S Grammer a Seattle lumberman appointed to replace the late Wesley L Jones. He grew up near Garfield and at Pea Ridge Masonic College ran as Benton county clerk nominee in 1896 but lost. He later moved west built a large lumber business and still visits Arkansas with wife Emma Kindley daughter of Cyr S Kindley a pioneer settler.
Washington reporters note a march on Washington as 20 motor trucks depart New York City for the capital. The group plans a four day, 238 mile trek arriving Sunday, the eve of Congress opening. Contingents from New York and New England move in two moving vans followed by five supply vans.
Washington officials grapple with who should handle potential difficulties as relief groups near arrival in the capital. Despite multiple conferences, DC commissioners and federal authorities remain unsure who takes charge if trouble arises. Police were urged to manage the situation by authorities.
Mahatma Gandhi urged American convert Nila Craw Cook not to join his next hunger strike in Poona prison. He warned he would begin a new fast in January unless the Hindu and Untouchable equality pact is approved, and invited Miss Cook to discuss the matter in person.
The Rev. L. B. Young a Cedar Hill Methodist pastor was detained in the bank vault during a robbery at the First State Bank of Cedar Hill near Dallas. Two youths dressed roughly and armed with revolvers robbed the bank and fled with $1,500, the Dallas Journal reports.
Three Russellville youths robbed a freight car near Ozark of 9.50 dollars. They trailing the suspect Fitzhugh Simpson, 21, to Russellville led to his arrest after he returned three dollars. Police say the victims aided the capture.
A Los Angeles chain store reports 72 cans of malt 1000 pounds of sugar sardines flour cheese meat and other foods stolen. Police investigate as hint of a planned beer garden following repeal of Prohibition.
