Death ends prominent Hope attorney services held in Hope
Attorney WS A Willan Seth Atkins 83 a leading Hope figure died Thursday in a local hospital. He chaired the Hempstead Democratic Central Committee for many years served on the County Election Board Hempstead County Selective Board and was several terms mayor of Hope and city attorney. Survived by five daughters and one son including Steve Atkins of Hope and Mrs Alma Drew Ruth Atkins and others. Services 2 p.m. Friday at Herndon Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hope.

State Police report two highway deaths on Thanksgiving Day in Arkansas. Betty Henderson, 20, of Dallas, Texas, died when her car lost control in the rain and struck a tree in Texarkana. Wayne Allen Vaughn, 17, of Hot Springs, was killed as a car overturned twice on Arkansas 7 north of Hot Springs. Injured were Paul Dickerson, 17, Owensville, and Joe Swanson, 17, near Hot Springs. The AP count covers 6 p.m. Wednesday to midnight Sunday.

222 Killed on Highways During Thanksgiving Holiday
