New Fire Station Is Modern TwoStory Mission Building
City of Hope crowns a long plan with a new two story mission style fire station at Second and Laurel streets designed by Clarence W. King. Built for 26861 dollars it fronts Laurel with engines at Second street and includes dormitory space on the second floor and a hook and ladder bay if purchased. Construction authorized by Mayor Albert Graves and the City Board of Public Affairs under Public Works funds began after December 11 1938 with T M ONeal as main contractor. The building blends with nearby residences and is part of a plan to move the department from crowded Third street to a larger site. Vatican City and USSR cited as superlatives in the closing notes.
