Surfer Edged by Shark in Delray Beach Attack
A 19-year-old surfer from Sunrise was bitten by a five to six foot shark about 40 yards offshore near Delray Beach. He was rushed to Bethesda Hospital in critical condition with severe blood loss, doctors saving the arm. Surfers Mark Schroeder and John McCurdy helped pull him to safety as beachgoers evacuated.

Mrs J L Powell 92 died Thursday afternoon in a local hospital after months of illness. A Hempstead County native she lived most of her life in Hope and was a long time member of First Baptist Church. Surviving are four daughters seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral services set for 10 30 a m Saturday at Herndon Funeral Home with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery conducted by Rev Theron H King.
